Our Story: The Why Behind The PT Zone’s Inception

by | Mar 1, 2021

Do you ever catch yourself on autopilot? You fall into a routine, things are status quo, and then something kicks your butt and changes everything? For me, that was 2020.

Last March, when many of us went in to quarantine, I was close to an all-time high weight, newly regimented on a strict protein biased diet, and finding myself without a CrossFit gym membership. I quickly scrambled to build a gym in my basement and kept on with similar programming, but felt defeated that my fitness goals were just as slow going, as they had been for the three years I’d been a member. A few months in to this discouraging patterning, I read an awe-inspiring book called Finding Ultra and it kicked my butt. I was instantly awoken to how essential holistic nutrition is to our fitness, recovery, and prevention of injury and disease. With this revolutionary information there was no going back. The next day I overhauled my nutrition to a plant-based, vegan diet, determined on finding out what fitness accomplishments my body was capable of with these changes. I very quickly found an unprecedented ability to recover post-workout and break new barriers in my cardiovascular and strength endurance. Surprisingly (or maybe not so surprisingly), I found better results in my self-generated fitness programming, supplementary work, and nutrition changes than any work I’ve ever put in before.

Something clicked.

After a lifelong battle with being an overweight athlete, I finally understood that I had the ideas right, but the components wrong. The girl who could lift like a beast but run like a sloth transformed into an endurance athlete within just six weeks, running 17 miles at a time and biking 100km distances, all while still managing to lift heavy. And while fitness was always the focus, weight loss happened to be the unintended byproduct. My body has never felt better or performed better.

Until recently, I had been a PT who believed, like most in my field, that growth and healing is the simple result of exercise prescription and manual work. But seeing the improvement in my health come naturally and fluidly for the first time, I quickly realized how backwards my perspective was. ALL of the components matter; exercise, manual work, nutrition, mobility, recovery, sleep, hydration. I began to feel a calling to do something different – because I realized I had it wrong in business, too.

I had seen the shift in myself. Now I wanted to share that with the people around me. That meant branching out on my own and rebuilding from the ground up.

The result: The PT Zone.
